After losing an important toss Tilford were asked to bat first on a damp but rapidly drying wicket. Three of the top five made a good start, with Tom McKay the pick with a quick fire 50, to leave Tilford on 114 for 4 after 29 overs and seemingly ready to post a very competitive score. But the last 6 wickets could only amass 38 runs to leave Tilford all out for 152 in the 44th over. Warburton and K.Lyall were the pick of the Witley bowlers, who generally kept things tight on a slow pitch.

Witley got off to a positive start and at 46 for 0 after 10 overs and 88 for 1 after 27 overs looked set to run away with the game. However with the pace off, Cantwell senior got back control. With Martin bowling 14 overs for 18 runs and taking 3 wickets, extraordinary figures. Andrew Mason began his Tilford bowling career with two useful wickets to keep Tilford in the hunt. As the lower order Witley wickets tumbled Tilford looked set for a famous victory and at 135 for 9 after , Tilford became favourites. However some lusty blows from Johno Hill saw Witley squeak home despite excellent ground fielding throughout by Tilford, who should be proud of the fighting spirit shown.

An entertaining game won and lost on very small margins.
